John Robert Badger, born in 1989 in Monroe, Louisiana, to Linda and Sammy Badger Jr., is the 10th and youngest child of the family. Growing up in Monroe, John attended Lakeshore Elementary School, where he formed a lifelong friendship with his future wife. Although love was not on their minds as children, their bond would grow into a lasting partnership over the years.
John continued his education at Ouachita Junior High School, where he faced a life-changing challenge. Diagnosed with a serious illness, he was unable to participate in physical activities like his peers, losing access to physical education and ROTC—things that once brought him pride. Despite these setbacks, two teachers at Ouachita Junior High School took him under their wing, teaching him how to sew. This skill would become a source of comfort and creativity for John, as he began making baby blankets, socks, and eventually purses to sell. His entrepreneurial spirit blossomed at a young age, and he started sewing daily, earning extra money for school and beyond.
At Ouachita Parish High School, John discovered a new passion for woodworking. He crafted items like mailbox décor, flower pots, rocking chairs, and footstools, which he sold to make extra money. Despite his illness continuing to impact his life, John found solace in his craft and began to build a foundation for his future. However, the challenges he faced in school became overwhelming, and in 2006, John made the difficult decision to drop out, missing his chance to graduate with the class of 2007.
After leaving school, John turned his focus to helping others in his community. He opened his home in Monroe to homeless women and children, providing them with food and support. This spirit of service led him to San Bernardino, California, where he continued his efforts to care for homeless veterans, women, and children. His journey then took him to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he continued his work helping those in need.
However, it was a traumatic event during the 2016 Louisiana flood that would profoundly affect John's life. As relentless rain fell for three days, John witnessed the rising waters in his neighborhood and felt a deep responsibility to help those around him. With no official assistance on the way, John took matters into his own hands, using a borrowed boat with no motor or paddle to rescue neighbors. He worked tirelessly, sometimes through the night, to ensure the safety of those in danger. Even as his own home was submerged, John prioritized the well-being of others. His actions during the flood were recognized by many, but his efforts were met with hostility from local authorities.
After the flood, John was wrongfully detained by the Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office. Officers, who had been informed by a neighbor, mistook him for someone else and confronted him aggressively. Despite his refusal to provide his name, John remained calm, asserting his rights. The officers eventually released him, but the experience left him shaken and fearful for his safety. It was this incident that prompted John to leave Louisiana, seeking refuge elsewhere.

In 2021, John decided to return to his education. He enrolled in the Penn Foster High School program, where he completed his high school diploma in just 1 month, setting a record for the school. His rapid success did not stop there; he also completed a medical assistant program through MedCert in 11 days in 2024. When asked why he was pushing himself so hard, John explained his ambition to become a law student and eventually a judge, determined to hold those responsible for the corruption he witnessed in Ouachita Parish accountable.
John Robert Badger's story is one of resilience, service, and an unyielding desire to make a difference. His journey, shaped by personal struggles and a deep commitment to helping others, continues to inspire those who know him. As he moves forward in his pursuit of justice, John remains steadfast in his mission to create positive change in his community and beyond.
